5G-powered AI stylist arrives on the red carpet at the EE BAFTAs

22 February 2019

EE introduced a new star to this year’s British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), with the world’s first AI stylist, Shudu. Powered by 5G and using state-of-the-art holographic technology, Shudu helped more than 40,000 film and fashion fans shop the most popular red carpet looks from home.

Sporting a bespoke Swarovski gown, Shudu captured the A-listers’ outfits using the Google Pixel 3, which she shared with viewers at home via an online chatbot.

Using the latest artificial intelligence (AI), Shudu learnt fans’ preferences and recommended affordable versions of the looks, live from the red carpet at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

This red carpet trial of the 5G network proved a huge success, with a latency of 15 milliseconds (ms) on the night – a huge achievement that helped ensure an amazing, real-time experience of the digital supermodel.

The red carpet look that inspired the most fans to get their own AI stylist belonged to actress Viola Davis, who wowed in a black velvet gown by Armani Privé, while A-list stars including Salma Hayek, Regina King and Linda Cardellini took the opportunity to strike a pose with Shudu.
