EE’s 5G-powered AI stylist Shudu wows the BAFTA red carpet

12 February 2019

The world’s first AI stylist – digital supermodel Shudu – proved a big hit at this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), helping over 40,000 fans “shop” affordable versions of the red carpet looks from the comfort of their sofa.

Shudu was brought to life using state-of-the-art holographic technology powered by EE’s new 5G network. This red carpet trial of the 5G network proved a huge success, with a latency of 15 milliseconds (ms) on the night – a huge achievement that helped with ensuring an amazing, real-time experience of the digital supermodel.

EE’s AI Stylist Shudu captured the A-listers’ glamorous outfits using the Google Pixel 3 and shared these shots with those at home via an innovative new online chatbot. Film and fashion fans the length and breadth of the country chatted online with Shudu, discussed their personal styles and browsed the impressive online collections.

The most popular red carpet collection took inspiration from the Armani dress worn by Widows actress Viola Davis. Men took their style inspiration from Valentino who walked down the red carpet wearing a suit from his eponymous collection.

EE’s red carpet presenter Laura Whitmore invited stars including Salma Hayek, Regina King and Linda Cardellini to strike a pose for Shudu, so fans from across the country could be part of the red carpet action at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall.
