The EE Rising Star Award is back for 2020

The EE Rising Star Award is EE’s very own award at the annual British Academy Film Awards, which recognises outstanding achievement by up and coming actors.

Each year, a jury of film industry experts select five nominees who they feel have demonstrated exceptional talent and have begun to capture the imagination of the British public.

This year, BAFTA-winning actress Vanessa Kirby, Game of Thrones actress Gemma Whelan and film broadcaster Edith Bowman joined the EE Rising Star jury panel to help decide on the shortlist for the 2020 award.

Members of the jury included acclaimed casting directors Lucy Bevan and Nina Gold, producers Uzma Hasan, Marc Samuelson and Georgina Lowe, as well as prominent film and arts journalists.

The EE Rising Star Award is the only BAFTA award voted for by the British public, and 2020 will be its 15th anniversary. Previous winners have included Tom Hardy, James McAvoy, Eva Green, Kristen Stewart, Tom Holland – and last year’s winner Letitia Wright.

This year's shortlist was announced on Monday 6th January and includes Awkwafina, Jack Lowden, Kaitlyn Dever, Kelvin Harrison Jr and Micheal Ward. You can vote for your favourite now, and if you place your vote before the end of 24th January you'll be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to the star-studded BAFTA awards ceremony. It'll be held at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 2nd February 2020, and you'll get to see the winner receive their award.

EE has been a long-standing partner of the BAFTA Film Awards for the past 23 years, working to bring film fans closer to the BAFTAs through the magic of technology. The 2020 ceremony will be no exception…but more on that coming soon!
