Google announces new Pixel 3 phones and Home Hub

9 October 2018

Google has just unveiled their new range of smartphones and smart home products during a special event in New York.

With a heavy focus on connectivity and convenience, these new devices work together seamlessly to help you control your home, improve communication and enhance entertainment.

Here’s what Google announced:

New Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones

Google’s new smartphones come in two sizes. The Google Pixel 3 features a Full HD+ 5.5-inch OLED display, while the Pixel 3 XL will satisfy box set bingers and movie buffs with a fully immersive QHD+ 6.3-inch screen – that’s four times the image quality of standard 720p high-definition playback. TV shows, films and video clips will look stunning.1

Previous Google Pixel phones have a great reputation for taking beautiful photos. The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL build on that legacy with new features to boost your images even further.

Group Selfie Mode means you can now capture more people in your photo – no more selfie sticks or tilting your phone at awkward angles. Whether you’ve gathered up the girls on a night out, you’re having fun with the lads, or capturing precious family moments on special occasions, Group Selfie Mode makes sure nobody’s left out.

With Portrait Mode on the 12.2MP rear-facing camera, shots of single subjects look incredible too. The clever camera detects imperfections and combines multiple images in an instant to produce the best photo every time.

Such an impressive camera means you’re likely to be taking lots of photos, which could fill up your phone. But not with the Google Pixel 3.

With unlimited online storage space on Google Photos2, all your pictures and videos can be automatically saved in the cloud – secure and easy to access over WiFi or our award-winning 4G network.

And connectivity is at the heart of the new Google Pixel 3. With the world’s most powerful search engine at its core, information is always easy and convenient to find3. Whether you’re using Google Lens to point your camera and seamlessly see information about landmarks and products4, or you’re talking to Google Assistant to fetch the latest football scores or news headlines5, everything is fast and convenient on the Google Pixel 3.

Google Home Hub

Google Home Hub

Voice-controlled home hubs have really taken off in the UK, proving popular with busy households. They’re great for finding out information quickly1, playing music online2 and controlling household devices such as thermostats, light bulbs and home security systems3.

Now the new Google Home Hub takes home assistance to a whole new level. With a 7-inch touchscreen built in, you can ask Google to show you things as well as tell you about them.

This means you can ask Google to show you photos stored in your Google Photos account4. You could say “hey Google, show me photos from my holiday in Florida” and they’ll be displayed on screen.

Or you could get Google to find videos on YouTube, show your appointments for the week ahead5, or connect to the security camera connected to your front door, so you can see who’s ringing the doorbell.

With a crystal-clear display, you can view a single dashboard that lets you voice-control compatible lights, cameras, TVs, speakers and more. Over 200 smart devices from the likes of Nest, Hive, Ring and Philips work with the Google Home Hub.
