Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G – discover the key features from Samsung’s most connected smartwatch

7 November 2018

The 4G-connected Samsung Galaxy Watch is here. But there’s no need to switch on your smartphone’s Bluetooth. The Galaxy Watch 4G is wrist-ready.

After you’ve chosen your watch strap and decided which watch face you like best, these are our top tips to get you started:

Set up Samsung Pay and spend less time at the tills

Rummaging around for loose change while a long queue forms behind you or having to find the right payment card in a wallet overwhelmed with receipts can be a real pain.

Samsung Pay puts pay to that.

The app securely stores your payment and loyalty cards, so you can buy everyday items with a simple tap.

Setting up Samsung Pay on your Galaxy Watch is easy1. Just click on the pre-installed Samsung Pay app and add your card details. Then make sure NFC is turned on (you can do this in Settings), and you’re ready to go. You can still use Samsung Pay on your smartphone – but that would mean still having to take your phone out of your pocket or bag, and having to unlock it to enter your pin, password or biometric data. It’s simpler and faster on the Galaxy Watch 4G.

Just imagine the scenario at the train station barriers – in days gone past, an impatient queue would form behind you as you fumble around for the right payment card in your bag. With the Galaxy Watch 4G you can now breeze right through the barriers – simply press your Galaxy Watch against the card reader and walk through to the platform. If you’re lucky, your train will even be on time.

Or at the supermarket, with the Galaxy Watch 4G, there’s no need to take out your phone and unlock it. Tap your Galaxy Watch against the NFC-enabled card reader and you’re on your way. Every little helps!

Track your fitness goals – even in water

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G keeps pace with you, whatever fitness level you’re at. It tracks your health and fitness all day and night, wherever you are. It can also help you set health and fitness goals, and track how you’re progressing.

Monitor your heart rate and stress levels and check how you’re sleeping. Get detailed tracking for 39 different sports and activities, including cycling, yoga and swimming. Yep, you no longer have to leave your watch in your locker when you visit the pool2.

If you have a Samsung smartphone, sync your Galaxy Watch 4G to the Samsung Health app so you can see your health and fitness details across both devices. But remember, you don’t need to have your phone handy to track your progress – it’s all there on your wrist with the Galaxy Watch 4G.

Stay connected even without your phone

The Galaxy Watch 4G works independently from your phone, so it doesn’t need to be synced for you to receive texts, instant messages, social notifications and emails. With the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G on EE, customers can take calls, receive messages and get notifications using the same number and data plan as their phone, while leaving their phone at home if they go out for a run or pop to the shop.

This means you’ll need to add your contacts and accounts when you first set up your Galaxy Watch 4G. Then you can dive deeper into the settings – choose the sound and vibration intensity of your alerts, create your
own pre-loaded quick responses for fast replies to texts, and sync and download
your premium Spotify account3 for easy access to your music on the move.

Pair your wireless headphones and run free

The Galaxy Watch 4G features a built-in speaker, so you can listen to music and take calls without headphones. That said, the speaker is more suited to calls. You don’t want to be that person blaring loud music on the bus home from work.

To get the most out of your music, pair your watch with some good wireless headphones. This will enable you to workout at the gym or run around the park without cables getting in the way. Syncing to a premium Spotify account3 is the easiest way to listen to music on the go, but you can also store some of your favourite tracks on the watch’s internal storage.

Manage music from your wrist

Of course, you’re not always going to be without your phone. And if you don’t have a premium Spotify account, have a large collection of tracks already stored on your phone, or use another music streaming service, you may want to keep your phone with you while at the gym or listening to music on the move.

But the Galaxy Watch 4G has another neat feature that means you’ll spend less time reaching for your smartphone.

Pair your phone and Galaxy Watch 4G together via Bluetooth and use your watch as a remote control. Skip tracks, play and pause your music without having to take your phone out your pocket. It’s a great touch and keeps the music flowing.
